As another prom season begins trends are starting to emerge in the industry of designer prom fashion. Automatically prom shoppers (hey, that is you) start looking for the “it” dress that will showcase their personality and style, well this 2013 prom season is no different. This year seems to be all about the sparkle and shine or as one may say “bring on the bling” in 2013. Stoning matters from the amount to the size in catching that ray of light that is oh so important!
Jovani and Sherri Hill showcased this look for 2012 but Tony Bowls and La Femme lead the way this year in raising the bar by upping the look of stoning for 2013. All of our top prom designers have a special feature to this sparkling trend, making each design unique.
Alyce sets the bar for chunk stoning with a touch of nude sheer fabric amplifying up the couture detail. While the designs of Jovani, La Femme, Sherri Hill, and Tony Bowls went with “the more the better” approach gives the wearer a drop dead entrance look. With designers such as Blush Prom, Night Moves by Allure, and Jasz Couture added the flowing regal look of chiffon and tulle to their styling. Using the oversized stones to accent bodice detail while still allowing beautiful graceful flow to their prom styles.
What is the end result of this “hot trend” look for Prom 2013? Your options for that “it” dress are endless. Just chose your style and your favorite “bring it on bling” dress will be waiting for you at your favorite International Prom retailer. Start your shopping early for the best prom dress selection!
Yes, you know you have been in the prom industry for a while (actually over 20 years) when you see the trends and styling repeat within your career. Well, it has happened for some of us at the International Prom offices and these are trends we just love for prom and pageant.
Starting with the beautiful flow of chiffon that has made a return to Formal Fashion Week for 2013. The elegant yet almost floating appearance of chiffon brings these formal prom dresses to life. Giving a model (or you) the appearance of the wind flowing through the gown as she walks. (Yes, it’s the look of the dress flowing upward and back as you run toward that magical embrace. A perfectly romantic look we must say.) With a gorgeous encrusted bodice adding color and dimension to simplicity of the chiffon, these dresses stand out as the graceful A-line and flattering sheath styles you will desire for prom 2013.
How about exquisite cut lace with bead detail in a variety of colors and silhouettes to make you picture perfect. Major prom designers have added lace to their collection for prom 2013. From all over lace to scattered through out the dress, lace is definitely back! Adding a web like overlay to your formal frock, lace changes that lovely dress into that “show stopping” look we know you desire. So, if you like that whimsy of vintage or red carpet high-end couture, look toward the use of lace to make your style picture perfect.
Now, let us add a bit of ruffle to the style mix. Okay, so we didn’t give you the full scope of the ruffle trend. Ruffles are huge for prom 2013! Adding an ultra-feminine look to a ball gown, high-low, cocktail, or sheath gown ruffles are a major fashion trend. Yes, they add the allure of romance to your look with a flirty flair but they are still showing up on some of the sexiest looks prom designers are creating for prom and pageant. With “rock star” bling and sequin sparkle, a ruffle-accented gown could be one of the hottest looks for prom.
Since, we are talking about sexy why not take a look at sheer. Yes, sheer is here! Whether it is nude or in a color, sleeved or skirted, beaded or plain sheer is in every designer’s showcase. With a dramatic fashion forward appeal straight of the haute couture runways, sheer insets brings both geometric interest as well as the sexy look that one thinks of when they hear “and it is sheer at the…” Yes, you may go “see through” sheer but many looks know are lined as well as embellished with beading for that fashion forward sheer look without the risqué.
For Prom 2013, we have been talking about the sparkle of sequins but also making a return to prom fashion runways were the elegant hand beaded styles that set the standard for elegance. From cocktail short flapper styles to full length elegant sheath gowns the use of hand beaded fabrics have once again added the grace and glamour of the silver screen back into the options for a fabulous entrance making first look.

Sequin prom dresses have once again made a statement with a stronger than ever come back over the past few years, speared along with a craving for glitz and glamour reminiscent of Old Hollywood. After all nothing can brighten a day like a little sparkle, oh wait a lot of sparkle, and a glamorous red carpet ready look. Designers from all fashion walks are now using sequins to bring an elegant dimensional effect that was sometimes lacking on even that perfect prom dress or black tie gala style.
Sequin embellishment makes a statement whether in silver, gold or multi-colored and embraces that festive glam style. Using the layered paillette sequin lends some to say it is “fish scale” styling while others would lean toward the look of the 1920′s and 1930′s with the flapper look of fun and swing. Sherri Hill made this paillette sequin look popular over the 2012 prom season with styles such as 2822 and 8433.
Going forward for Fall and Homecoming 2012 brings about great new styles from Jasz Couture, La Femme Fashion, Night Moves, and Tony Bowls. With richer sequin hues, cut stoning embedded within tight woven sequin patterns, multi colored sequin designed prints and layers of dimensional pailettes your way to stand out this homecoming season may just be that sequin dress. After all you will be “fabulous darling!”
