As 2012 comes to an end we begin to look back at the trends that set the style of prom fashion for 2012 and now are setting pace for designer prom looks of Prom 2013.
When looking at the trends one can definitely say that huge chunk stoning became the standard in couture high end prom dresses. From the designers of Sherri Hill and Jovani came large stone embellishment that gave the extravagant look that had been used exclusively for pageant dresses. This trend gave everyone the right to “bling” with style and will continue into Prom 2013 with even greater demand.

What about sequins well they were back with a vengeance. Bringing back the color catching discs to an elegant styled sheath or cocktail style with the use of tonal colors and vivid sparkle were the design teams of La Femme Fashion, Jasz Couture, and Precious Formals. All showing that the glitz and glam of the 60′s and 70′s is here to stay for Prom 2013.

Mermaids (trumpets or hourglass) were available to show off those fabulous figures with slim beaded bodices and layers of ruffles and tulle. Leading the way with this body hugging look were the top prom designers of Paparazzi, Alyce Paris, and Blush Prom showing off the styling sensations by adding in vivid hues and ombre styling. Look for even more variation to these mermaid looks for Prom 2013.

Last but not least, the “high-low” made the final outstanding statement for the prom year 2012 with the unforgettable styling of Tony Bowls, Night Moves by Allure and Riva Designs. Many designers continued this overwhelming look for Prom 2013 with the addition of peplums and removable skirts that can add a sexy cocktail look for that after prom fun.

Yes, you know you have been in the prom industry for a while (actually over 20 years) when you see the trends and styling repeat within your career. Well, it has happened for some of us at the International Prom offices and these are trends we just love for prom and pageant.

Starting with the beautiful flow of chiffon that has made a return to Formal Fashion Week for 2013. The elegant yet almost floating appearance of chiffon brings these formal prom dresses to life. Giving a model (or you) the appearance of the wind flowing through the gown as she walks. (Yes, it’s the look of the dress flowing upward and back as you run toward that magical embrace. A perfectly romantic look we must say.) With a gorgeous encrusted bodice adding color and dimension to simplicity of the chiffon, these dresses stand out as the graceful A-line and flattering sheath styles you will desire for prom 2013.

What’s next?
How about exquisite cut lace with bead detail in a variety of colors and silhouettes to make you picture perfect. Major prom designers have added lace to their collection for prom 2013. From all over lace to scattered through out the dress, lace is definitely back! Adding a web like overlay to your formal frock, lace changes that lovely dress into that “show stopping” look we know you desire. So, if you like that whimsy of vintage or red carpet high-end couture, look toward the use of lace to make your style picture perfect.

Now, let us add a bit of ruffle to the style mix. Okay, so we didn’t give you the full scope of the ruffle trend. Ruffles are huge for prom 2013! Adding an ultra-feminine look to a ball gown, high-low, cocktail, or sheath gown ruffles are a major fashion trend. Yes, they add the allure of romance to your look with a flirty flair but they are still showing up on some of the sexiest looks prom designers are creating for prom and pageant. With “rock star” bling and sequin sparkle, a ruffle-accented gown could be one of the hottest looks for prom.

Since, we are talking about sexy why not take a look at sheer. Yes, sheer is here! Whether it is nude or in a color, sleeved or skirted, beaded or plain sheer is in every designer’s showcase. With a dramatic fashion forward appeal straight of the haute couture runways, sheer insets brings both geometric interest as well as the sexy look that one thinks of when they hear “and it is sheer at the…” Yes, you may go “see through” sheer but many looks know are lined as well as embellished with beading for that fashion forward sheer look without the risqué.

For Prom 2013, we have been talking about the sparkle of sequins but also making a return to prom fashion runways were the elegant hand beaded styles that set the standard for elegance. From cocktail short flapper styles to full length elegant sheath gowns the use of hand beaded fabrics have once again added the grace and glamour of the silver screen back into the options for a fabulous entrance making first look.
